Traffic building is a tricky thing. But before you go about attempting to boost your website traffic, something you should really think about is why you want a high-traffic site. Once you're site reaches that level, you'll have continued pressure to keep the content fresh, timeless, relevant and original. Something you may not be up to the task.
Ask yourself these questions: What will you do if you succeed in building a lot of traffic to you site? If you think you'll be in the position to influence a lot of people, what would you offer them? Is the service or product you offer worth a lot of people knowing about?
Building traffic shouldn't be a self-serving thing. It should be about your readers and viewers first. If you're goal is to help your audience, then go for it. Otherwise, you should hold back and making your website popular until you get your motives right. Fame and fortune is nice, but you'll lose credibility with all those readers and viewers if your site eventually begins to do nothing for them.
Begin building traffic gradually. As you become more comfortable in your role as a popular website or blog, and you feel confident in your abilities to continue to succeed and do well begin stretching yourself by choosing other ways to create more traffic. You should also monitor the traffic. This will help you know who and where your viewers/readers are coming from, so that you can tailor the content on your site to fit them and their needs.
