iPhone 3.0 software coming soon Apple will preview its iPhone 3.0 software on Tuesday March 17. What might the revision bring? Various US media outlets have been invited to a "advance preview" (is there any other kind?) of the iPhone OS 3.0 software to be held at Apple's Cupertino campus next Tuesday. An updated version of the iPhone SDK will also be revealed. If the events of 2008 are any guide, iPhone 3.0 is likely to arrive midyear. So far, there are no solid clues concerning the new features of iPhone 3.0, though there is plenty of speculation. If Apple had been paying attention to its more vocal customers, you'd expect copy-and-paste to be at the top of the list. And while its not everyone's cup of tea, it's not hard to make a case for MMS, which is a standard feature of practically every other recent handset. Remember the push notification service that was announced for last September? Is it too much to ask for that to finally appear? Another potential feature that's been bandied about is turn-by-turn GPS navigation. There's been some question about whether the current iPhone's GPS is sufficiently accurate to be up to this job. What else might be on the way in iPhone 3.0?
