Behind Google's Glowing Earnings
Even as the economy skids, Google keeps on rolling—just a little more slowly than it used to. Bucking the stalling economy and worsening outlook for online advertising, the search advertising titan on Jan. 22 reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results. The numbers suggest Google will keep grabbing more of the online ad market from traditional media and from struggling online rivals such as Yahoo! and Microsoft.
Shares of Google, which fell 56% last year, slipped almost 3% in extended trading after an initial 4% gain. Enthusiasm for the company's fourth-quarter results was muted by questions about whether Google can keep posting solid gains as advertisers rein in spending. Investors also appeared to balk at an employee stock option exchange that will cost Google $460 million. Before the closing bell, the stock had climbed 1% to 306.50.
Google, which gets paid each time someone clicks on text ads placed on search results pages, had earnings of $5.10 a share, excluding some one-time expenses and stock option costs. That was up from $4.92 a year earlier. Net income, however, fell 68% to $382 million, thanks mainly to those charges, which include $1.1 billion in noncash charges to reflect the declining value of Google's stakes in Time Warner's AOL unit and the wireless service provider Clearwire.
Microsoft Slams on the Brakes
Two days after President Barack Obama, in his inaugural speech, told the country to brace itself for tough times, the head of one of the most valuable U.S. companies echoed the sentiment. "We're certainly in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime set of economic conditions," Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer told analysts during a conference call discussing fiscal second-quarter results. "The economy is resetting to a lower level."
In other words, we've entered a new paradigm. The mortgage-market collapse, financial market turmoil, and restricted lending have taken a big toll on demand for computers and other products that run Microsoft's software, and it's time to settle in for a long slump. There's no recovery on the horizon, Ballmer warned. The economy could remain in the doldrums for "a year, two years—I don't know what it will be—and then start to build back," Ballmer said.
As with other tech bellwethers including Intel, the "resetting" is hitting Microsoft hard. Second-quarter sales rose a mere 2%, to $16.63 billion, compared with analysts' already-lowered average forecast of $17 billion, according to the earnings report, which was released Jan. 22. Net income fell 11%, to $4.17 billion. And Microsoft said it lacked enough clarity to provide a forecast for the next two quarters. Microsoft's stock tumbled 11.7%, to 17.11, helping fuel a 1.94% decline in the New York Stock Exchange.
So what's a behemoth of a company like Microsoft to do in the midst of so great a downturn? Organic growth is hard to come by for the maker of software running more personal computers than there are cars in operation. And the company's biggest attempt to grow through acquisition, a proposed takeover of Yahoo! in 2008, foundered.

Presentation Poster Good Practices
- Make several small sketches on paper that reflect the scale and proportions of the final poster. If the poster will be a folded poster, consider how the audience will approach and view the poster. Don’t include critical information on folded panels that may not be viewable when approached from the side. (Image 1)
- Leave a distinct margin around the edge of the poster. Top and side margins should be between 1-2 inches. If your poster will rest on a table or an easel and the bottom of the poster will fall well below eye-level, leave a larger margin at the bottom. Create “blocks” of information that show the positions of your concept groups. Structure your poster so the viewer can absorb the information within 5-7 minutes. Control the flow of information through the document. Don’t crowd your groupings. Use empty space to separate your ideas and guide the eye of the viewer. (Images 2 and 3)
- Don’t create visual “clutter.” Use only graphs, charts and photographs that communicate your information in a consistant manner. (Image 4)
- colors or you may lose control of the document flow.Use color as a control element. Bright colors attract the eye first, but don’t use too many Make sure that the use of color does not distract from the content. A carefully chosen color can create emphasis for headlines and text groupings, but an intense background combined with a poor font choice can make it difficult to read the text. (Image 5)
Voice over Internet Protocol
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over the internet or other packed switched networks. Other terms frequently encountered and synonymous with VoIP are IP telephony and Internet telephony, as well as voice over broadband, broadband telephony, and broadband phone, when the network connectivity is available over broadband Internet access.
VoIP systems usually interface with the traditional public switched telephone networks (PSTN) to allow for transparent phone communications worldwide.
VoIP can be a benefit for reducing communication and infrastructure costs by routing phone calls over existing data networks and avoiding duplicate network systems.
Voice-over-IP systems carry telephony speech as digital audio, typically reduced in data rate usi ng speech data compression techniques, packetized in small units of typically tens of milliseconds of speech, and encapsulated in a packet stream over IP...=)
Intel: No need to charge your cellphone
Intel said it is researching technology to harvest free energy from the environment, which could lead to devices such as mobile phones running for indefinite periods without recharging.
The company is working on tiny sensors that can capture energy from sources such as sunlight and body heat. In the future, such energy could be used to power personal electronic devices such as cell phones.
There are already watches available that are powered by body heat, as well as prototype smartphones with display screens that double as solar cells, said Justin Rattner, chief technology officer at Intel, during a press event. Intel is also looking at powering a mobile phone by harvesting the energy the user generates by moving the phone’s trackball. The radiation of cell phone or TV signals might also be used to power devices.

How to Create Strong Passwords
- Think of a sentence that you can remember. This will be the basic of your strong password. For example "My dog likes playing with balls."
- Check if the computer or online system supports the spaces between characters. If yes, you should use it.
- If the computer or online system does not support the spaces then convert it to a password. Take the first letter of each word of the sentence that you've created to create a new, non-logical word. Using the example above: "mdlpwb".
- Make it to a complex one by using uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers. The longer the sentence, the more complex your password can be. With spaces might become "My DoG LiKeS PlAyInG WiTh BaLlS." If the computer or online system will not support spaces, use the same technique on the shorter password. "MdLpWb".
- Finally, use some special characters as symbols."MyDoG LiKe$ PlAyInG Ball$" or a password (using the first letter of each word) "MdLpW$".

A Blog: What Is It All About?
- Keep it interesting: Research and find something popular and interesting to write about and make sure you know about whatever you choose.
- Speak, don't write: Use a conversational tone to get your ideas across. Don't be boring and monotonous and don't use words which require a dictionary to find the meaning.
- Determine your blogging frequency: Whether you will blog every day or just once a week, decide about it before your start your blog and stick to that schedule. Daily blogging is recommended. ~sElAmAt bErBlOg gUyZ!~

Israel's Killing Spree
Right now, we have all heard and knew about the war happening in Gaza City. These are such heartless people, where the Israeli troops are not feeling any guilt over bombing schools and public housing areas. They are not done with this killing spree, and are not listening to the voices of the world cursing them. Apparently there is nothing the world can do, not even the United Nations (UN). Why is this happening? How is it possible for such a small country - they don't even have a country - to win over the entire world? The answer is simple. They have the US as their backbone, telling the foolish current US President - George W. Bush - to vote against peacemaking in the UN meeting. No wonder he got shoes flying across his face.
However, there is a way to win this unfair war against the heartless Israeli. By business war. We as responsible Muslims should support this action by not buying or using Israel-made products or associated in any way to those dogs. Here I included a jpeg file which listed a few leading brand names that we should STOP BUYING IMMEDIATELY.
